DESCRIPTION:At our September 19th program for KIND\, Kate Wilson will teach us the Finchley Graft. This is a much easier alternative to the Kitchener stitch for grafting two pieces together. The homework for the program is as follows: \nHOMEWORK \nMaterials: 2 swatches (directions below) using a smooth worsted-weight yarn\, and a tapestry needle. I found that a straight needle was easier than using the type with a bent tip. \nMake 2 swatches.\nFor each swatch\, cast on 10 stitches and knit in stockinette stitch for about 2” ending with a knit row. Cut the yarn\, leaving a tail about 10” long. Leave the stitches on the needle. \nIf you don’t have two sets of needles the same size\, after finishing the first swatch\, slide the finished swatch onto a smaller size needle to free up your needles for the second swatch.

DESCRIPTION:KIND will host guest speaker Carol Moseley\, a nationally recognized fiber artist whose specialties include wearable art garments. \nShe will describe her creative process which begins with knitting\, then felting\, and lastly adding the finishing touches to create art to wear.\nShe will give us tips on how we can (purposely!) felt our knits. \nTo participate\, knit a small swatch of non-superwash wool in a loose gauge and bring it to the meeting.

DESCRIPTION:Hazel Kjos will guide us in learning the Ten Stitch Technique\, an easy way to make square objects such as blankets. \nFor homework: take a favorite solid-colored yarn\, cast on 10 stitches and knit in garter stitch for 20 rows (10 ridges.) Slip the first stitch of each row and knit all the way to the last stitch of each row. \nAt the meeting\, Hazel will show the process of mitering to create sharp corners and continuing around the central piece to enlarge it\, similar to a Log Cabin Barn Raising quilting pattern.

SUMMARY:KIND Meeting – Mosaic (Colorwork pt. 1)
DESCRIPTION:KIND will begin a series of programs on colorwork. \nFor January\, we will focus on mosaic knitting. Mosaic is one of the easiest ways to do complex colorwork patterns but uses only one color at a time. Come join us at the meeting to learn about mosaic knitting and try out one of these patterns. \nTo participate\, you’ll need two colors of the same yarn\, a light and a dark (take a photo and use your phone to convert it monochrome/black-and-white to ensure good contrast!). For needles\, you can use circular or straight needles\, but select ones 1-2 sizes larger than you would normally use for that yarn.
