DESCRIPTION:KNOW’s July program will be a knit-along presented by Jan Clark. We will be knitting the “Multidirectional Diagonal Scarf“\, which is a free pattern available on Ravelry (https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/multidirectional-diagonal-scarf). \n  \nThis scarf looks great with variegated or self-striping yarn. A good yarn to try would be a DK weight\, knit with size 6 needles\, or try a heavier yarn with appropriate needles for a faster finish. You can use the same yarn throughout or different yarns in each triangular section of the scarf as a way to use some leftover stash yarn. It’s also possible to use two yarns held together for a different look. There are so many possibilities that you may want to make more than one! \nThis is a fun project for knitters with limited experience and for highly skilled knitters. DESCRIPTION:KNOW’s October program will be Twisted Traveling Stitches presented by Amy Rodgers.\n\nThis technique is associated with fine wool knitting on gloves and socks from the Bavarian region of Germany. She will introduce a simple pumpkin motif chart composed of zigs\, zags\, and twists.\n\nIn a break from tradition\, we will be making it a back-and-forth design. Participants can choose between making a beverage coaster or a face/dish cloth.\n\nIf you want to make a beverage coaster\, bring wool fingering or sport weight yarn and appropriate size needles\nIf you prefer face or dish clothes\, bring a worsted weight cotton or linen\n\n\n*Note: Amy’s tip is that sharper tapered points may be helpful since no cable needles are used!\n\n\nVisitors and members from other chapters are always welcome. Members often arrive early to Spring Creek to visit over dinner. DESCRIPTION:We returned to Spring Creek for in person meetings with our June meeting. Spring Creek said that they do not have any COVID restrictions in place for the use of their community/back room\, and we anticipate this remaining the case. We acknowledge some members still have reservations about meeting in a large group\, but the majority of members voted to resume our in-person meetings. We will be adjusting our plans based on the membership’s wishes. If you have questions or concerns\, please email them to KNOW via the KANG website and we will take your thoughts under advisement.\n\nMembers often arrive early to Spring Creek to visit over dinner\, please consider joining your fellow KNOW members for some food and friendship.\n\nMembers from other chapters wishing to attend our meeting are always welcome to do so.\n\nIn July: Now you see it\, now you don’t! The July KNOW program will be all about Illusion knitting which looks like simple stripes from one angle\, then turns into a fun motif when the perspective is changed. We will knit a simple motif to illustrate\, then reveal the secret of Illusion knitting so you can create your own. To participate\, bring two contrasting colors of the same smooth yarn (one light and one dark\, both solids.) The effect works best if the knitting is a bit tight\, so you may wish to use needles 1 size smaller than you would normally use for that yarn.

SUMMARY:KNOW Meeting - Knitting increases
DESCRIPTION:We are returning to Spring Creek Barbeque for the first time in 15 months. This will be our first in-person meeting based on a vote of the Chapter members. Spring Creek said that they do not have any COVID restrictions in place for the use of their community/back room. Some members did not vote on the return to in-person meetings\, and others expressed their concern about participating in a large group. We want this to be a positive experience for all KNOW members\, so we are asking all to be sensitive to the concerns of others. It would be helpful if members bring a mask to wear during the meeting in case we have attendees who are not fully vaccinated. If you have any questions\, please contact Nancy Threadgold\, KNOW President. We hope to be able to ZOOM our program as well\, but we are still working on the logistics. If you would like to attend the meeting via Zoom\, please sent an email to that effect to knitatnightguildKNOW@gmail.com and we will try to accommodate you.\n\nMembers from other chapters wishing to attend our meeting are always welcome to do so.\n\nAmy Rodgers will be presenting our June program. She will be presenting a program on increases\, including a sampler or pared increases from KFB\, M1\, YO\, twists and when to use them. Attendees are asked to bring either DK or worsted yarn and appropriate needles. A handout will be provided. Amy intends to discuss the issue of where distortion may matter in top-down garments or gussets.

SUMMARY:KNOW Zoom Meeting - Yarn dyeing
DESCRIPTION:Knitter’s Night Out West meets from 7:00 pm – 8:30pm on the last Monday of each month (EXCEPT IN MAY and December). While we normally meet at Spring Creek Barbeque\, 21000 Katy Freeway\, I-10 at Westgreen Blvd in Katy\, currently we are holding Zoom meetings.\n\nChapter members\, please watch your email for a poll regarding when we should resume in-person meetings. May 24th is a Zoom meeting so watch for your invitation around May 20.\n\nMembers from other chapters wishing to attend our meeting are always welcome to do so. Please email KNOW prior to May 21st to be sure to receive a Zoom invitation.\n\nKNOW members will head to the kitchen and do some yarn dyeing in the microwave with Kool Aid!  Dyeing with food dyes is an easy\, fun\, and safe way to become an indie dyer for a day.  You can use any white or light-colored yarn that is animal fiber (wool\, mohair\, etc.\, no cottons or acrylics.) Check your stash for leftovers or unloved hanks and give them a makeover with this fun technique.  We will send out a full list of materials ahead of our meeting\, so if you are not a KNOW chapter member be sure to send an email to KNOW for the information and Zoom invite as soon as possible.
