DESCRIPTION:We returned to Spring Creek for in person meetings with our June meeting. Spring Creek said that they do not have any COVID restrictions in place for the use of their community/back room\, and we anticipate this remaining the case. We acknowledge some members still have reservations about meeting in a large group\, but the majority of members voted to resume our in-person meetings. We will be adjusting our plans based on the membership’s wishes. If you have questions or concerns\, please email them to KNOW via the KANG website and we will take your thoughts under advisement.\n\nMembers often arrive early to Spring Creek to visit over dinner\, please consider joining your fellow KNOW members for some food and friendship.\n\nMembers from other chapters wishing to attend our meeting are always welcome to do so.\n\nIn July: Now you see it\, now you don’t! The July KNOW program will be all about Illusion knitting which looks like simple stripes from one angle\, then turns into a fun motif when the perspective is changed. We will knit a simple motif to illustrate\, then reveal the secret of Illusion knitting so you can create your own. To participate\, bring two contrasting colors of the same smooth yarn (one light and one dark\, both solids.) The effect works best if the knitting is a bit tight\, so you may wish to use needles 1 size smaller than you would normally use for that yarn.

DESCRIPTION:We are returning to Spring Creek Barbeque for the first time in 15 months. This will be our first in-person meeting based on a vote of the Chapter members. Spring Creek said that they do not have any COVID restrictions in place for the use of their community/back room. Some members did not vote on the return to in-person meetings\, and others expressed their concern about participating in a large group. We want this to be a positive experience for all KNOW members\, so we are asking all to be sensitive to the concerns of others. It would be helpful if members bring a mask to wear during the meeting in case we have attendees who are not fully vaccinated. If you have any questions\, please contact Nancy Threadgold\, KNOW President. We hope to be able to ZOOM our program as well\, but we are still working on the logistics. DESCRIPTION:Knitter’s Night Out West meets from 7:00 pm – 8:30pm on the last Monday of each month (EXCEPT IN MAY and December). May 24th is a Zoom meeting so watch for your invitation around May 20.\n\nMembers from other chapters wishing to attend our meeting are always welcome to do so. Please email KNOW prior to May 21st to be sure to receive a Zoom invitation.\n\nKNOW members will head to the kitchen and do some yarn dyeing in the microwave with Kool Aid!  Dyeing with food dyes is an easy\, fun\, and safe way to become an indie dyer for a day.  You can use any white or light-colored yarn that is animal fiber (wool\, mohair\, etc.\, no cottons or acrylics.) Check your stash for leftovers or unloved hanks and give them a makeover with this fun technique.  We will send out a full list of materials ahead of our meeting\, so if you are not a KNOW chapter member be sure to send an email to KNOW for the information and Zoom invite as soon as possible.

DESCRIPTION:Members from other chapters are most welcome. Please send an email request to the KNOW president a few days ahead of the meeting and you will be emailed a Zoom invitation. \nThis month\, KNOW members will once again delve into the wonderful world of slipped stitches. Many slip stitch patterns are done with yarn held on the wrong side (like in mosaic knitting)\, but others slip stitches with the yarn on the right side. We will explore one of the latter\, a pattern that results in an interesting wavy\, woven look in multi colors\, but uses one color at a time. To try it out at the meeting\, select a yarn in two or more contrasting solid colors and bring appropriately sized needles.

Members of other KANG Chapters please email knitatnightguildknow@gmail.com by August 24th to receive an invite to join our meeting. \nWe will be doing a mini-project over the next two Zoom meetings. For the first part\, we will get our colorwork going as we knit a small fair-isle piece in the round during the August meeting. \nIn September\, we will take the finished fair isle and do a steek\, where we cut our knitting (!) and add a button band. The result will be a colorful cardi coffee cup cozy! \n\nThe pattern for the project is “Steek This Coffee Cozy” by Rachel Molenaar and it is free on Ravelry.  Please download it ahead of the meeting and print it out if you like (and if you are able!)\nFor the meeting\, grab an assortment of DK or worsted weight wool (non-superwash and 100% wool suggested) in 5 colors: 2 for the background and 3 for the pattern.\nYou will need circular needles or double-pointed needles (size 5 suggested; we will knit 53 stitches in the round.)\n\nJoin us as we learn from each other; there are many ways to knit stranded colorwork\, and many ways to knit in the round!

SUMMARY:KNOW Meeting - Linen Stitch
DESCRIPTION:Knitter’s Night Out West meets from 6:30 pm – 8:30pm on the last Monday of each month (except in May and December) at Spring Creek Barbeque\, 21000 Katy Freeway\, I-10 at Westgreen Blvd in Katy.  Many of our members arrive early to have dinner and socialize before the meeting.  Everyone is welcome! \nFor our March meeting Amelia Speck will give KNOW attendees an overview of the linen stitch and its cousin\, the half-linen stitch.  These versatile stitches are lovely in solid yarns but can be magical when used with multi-colored yarns.  The resulting fabric looks and acts woven.  Please bring a selection of yarns: one multi and two complementary solids and needles to try it out for yourself! \nAlso\, I would like KNOW members to think about the upcoming WorldWide Knit in Public Day\, Saturday\, June 13\, 2020.  This event was mention at the last Executive Board Meeting and I would like to get a feel for how KNOW members view this event.  It may be that the KANG will organize something Guild wide but if not\, I think it would be great if KNOW could do something.  I look forward to hearing your thoughts either at our upcoming meeting or by email.

DESCRIPTION:For our October program Penny Nelson and Peggy Barnette of Sky Loom Weavers will be taking us for a spin!  Penny and Peggy will present a program on spinning\, that magical process that creates yarn from fiber.  They will cover the history of spinning and demonstrate some special techniques; you will even get a chance to spin if you wish!  They will bring a selection of wheels and spindles\, an array of different fiber preparations\, and a sampling of their luscious handspun for show and sale.  Whether you are an experienced spinner or just curious about how yarn is made\, come join us for this fun event! \nIf you still have any preemie hats to turn in from our August charity effort\, please bring them along to the meeting and we will be sure they are delivered to Texas Children’s Hospital.

SUMMARY:KNOW Meeting - Preemie Hats
DESCRIPTION:On Monday\, July 29\, we at KNOW are hosting a benefit for the NICU at Texas Children’s Hospital in Katy.  We will be knitting and crocheting preemie hats\, so bring your soft\, brightly-colored yarn scraps and appropriate needles.  Leftover\, superwash sock yarn is perfect for these tiny hats.  The NICU is also accepting baby blankets for those of you who are so inclined. \nWe will be providing patterns for both knitted and crocheted versions of preemie hats.  These patterns are written in the round using fingering/sport-weight yarn and size 4 needles/size 7 hooks.  You are also welcome to bring your favorite patterns\, bearing in mind that your hats should fit anywhere from a  lemon to an orange. \nPlease join us so that we can have a robust response to the needs of the babies at Texas Children’s.  See you there!

So\, we are going to have a little fun with Show & Share during our “Summer Show & Share Sheepstakes.” Everything you complete that was begun no earlier than May 20 (the date of our last meeting) and that contains at least 150 yards of fiber will be eligible to win a prize. We will be awarding prizes to recognize the largest item made (based on yardage); the most items completed; and finally\, the most unusual item. So get knitting! And please bring your all your finished projects\, not just those that fit the contest criteria\, to Show & Share on June 24. \nIn addition\, we will be voting to fill several Executive Board positions\, along with the positions of KNOW president\, KNOW Membership Coordinator\, and KNOW Program Coordinator(s). SUMMARY:KNOW Meeting - Valentines for Peyton Heart Project
DESCRIPTION:Get ready\, Valentines!  On Monday\, February 25\, 2019\, the KNOW chapter will host a Benefit for the Peyton Heart Project.  We will be knitting and crocheting colorful hearts as part of a worldwide mission to bring awareness to the issues of teen suicide and bullying\, to show people that their lives are worth living\, and that every life matters.  We will be adding special tags to our hearts identifying them as part of the Project. The hearts may then be scattered at large in your community or be part of our chapter donation to the Peyton Heart Project here in Texas.  \nBring scraps of worsted-weight yarn in cheerful colors (no angora or mohair) along with your choice of knitting needles (both straight and circular) and/or crochet hooks. We will provide more information about the project; patterns for both knitted and crocheted hearts; tags to attach to your heart(s); and a delicious\, heart-y dessert. In addition\, a grand prize will be awarded to the person who completes the most hearts during the meeting!  Please plan to join your friends for an evening of knitting\, crocheting\, and becoming part of this important effort to increase self-esteem among our youth.

DESCRIPTION:At our KNOW meeting on January 28\, well-known Katy artist and knitting instructor Sony Hartley will present her program which was originally scheduled for October. During the program\, “Decorative Cast-on Techniques\,” Sony will teach three different ways to cast on a knitting project:  The I-cord Cast-on\, Picot Cast-on\, and Flower Cast-on.  In order to participate\, bring worsted-weight yarn\, any type of knitting needles size 8-10\, and a crochet hook size C or smaller. Sony will supply beads and flowers for our use.  Please plan to attend what promises to be a fun and interesting program.
