DESCRIPTION:For our October program Penny Nelson and Peggy Barnette of Sky Loom Weavers will be taking us for a spin!  Penny and Peggy will present a program on spinning\, that magical process that creates yarn from fiber.  They will cover the history of spinning and demonstrate some special techniques; you will even get a chance to spin if you wish!  They will bring a selection of wheels and spindles\, an array of different fiber preparations\, and a sampling of their luscious handspun for show and sale.  Whether you are an experienced spinner or just curious about how yarn is made\, come join us for this fun event! \nIf you still have any preemie hats to turn in from our August charity effort\, please bring them along to the meeting and we will be sure they are delivered to Texas Children’s Hospital.

SUMMARY:KNOW Meeting - Preemie Hats
DESCRIPTION:On Monday\, July 29\, we at KNOW are hosting a benefit for the NICU at Texas Children’s Hospital in Katy.  We will be knitting and crocheting preemie hats\, so bring your soft\, brightly-colored yarn scraps and appropriate needles.  Leftover\, superwash sock yarn is perfect for these tiny hats.  The NICU is also accepting baby blankets for those of you who are so inclined. \nWe will be providing patterns for both knitted and crocheted versions of preemie hats.  These patterns are written in the round using fingering/sport-weight yarn and size 4 needles/size 7 hooks.  You are also welcome to bring your favorite patterns\, bearing in mind that your hats should fit anywhere from a  lemon to an orange. \nPlease join us so that we can have a robust response to the needs of the babies at Texas Children’s.  See you there!

So\, we are going to have a little fun with Show & Share during our “Summer Show & Share Sheepstakes.” Everything you complete that was begun no earlier than May 20 (the date of our last meeting) and that contains at least 150 yards of fiber will be eligible to win a prize. We will be awarding prizes to recognize the largest item made (based on yardage); the most items completed; and finally\, the most unusual item. So get knitting! SUMMARY:KNOW Meeting - Valentines for Peyton Heart Project
DESCRIPTION:Get ready\, Valentines!  On Monday\, February 25\, 2019\, the KNOW chapter will host a Benefit for the Peyton Heart Project.  We will be knitting and crocheting colorful hearts as part of a worldwide mission to bring awareness to the issues of teen suicide and bullying\, to show people that their lives are worth living\, and that every life matters.  We will be adding special tags to our hearts identifying them as part of the Project. The hearts may then be scattered at large in your community or be part of our chapter donation to the Peyton Heart Project here in Texas.  \nBring scraps of worsted-weight yarn in cheerful colors (no angora or mohair) along with your choice of knitting needles (both straight and circular) and/or crochet hooks. We will provide more information about the project; patterns for both knitted and crocheted hearts; tags to attach to your heart(s); and a delicious\, heart-y dessert. In addition\, a grand prize will be awarded to the person who completes the most hearts during the meeting!  Please plan to join your friends for an evening of knitting\, crocheting\, and becoming part of this important effort to increase self-esteem among our youth.

DESCRIPTION:Please plan to join in the festivities at KNOW on July 30 at our “Christmas in July” knit-in.  We will be knitting and crocheting seasonal decorations and tree ornaments as we get a head start on the Holidays!  Bring your favorite homemade decoration to share.  We will have patterns and plenty of Knit Picks worsted-weight yarn available\, in addition to a supply of beads\, sequins\, ribbon\, stuffing\, and other trimmings you may use to decorate your finished project.  Just bring assorted knitting needles (sizes 5-8)\, a crochet hook (size F)\, and your bag of notions. Holiday goodies will be served\, so save room for dessert!  \n \n \n\nWe will also be voting on Chapter Officers to fill positions for the coming year\, so come prepared to participate in the voting process.  In addition\, we will be collecting dues.  You may pay your annual membership fee at the meeting by cash or check ($25.00).  \n \nMany of our members arrive at the restaurant early to have dinner.  We encourage this custom\, as Spring Creek Barbecue has never charged us for the use of their conference room\, and we appreciate it!  Everyone is welcome.  We look forward to seeing you there!

SUMMARY:KNOW Mtg - Special Pals
DESCRIPTION:Exciting news!  This month’s KNOW meeting will be a benefit for the Special Pals animal shelter in Katy.  In association with the The Snuggles Project\, we will be knitting and crocheting therapy blankets for the homeless pets at the shelter.  Considering the unusually cold winter we’re having\, Special Pals is delighted to be receiving our blankets.  They have set no limitations on size or color\, so you can be as creative as you wish!  A medium-size blanket requires about 700-900 yards of worsted-weight acrylic yarn\, knit double-stranded using a size 11-13 needle. You may use any acrylic yarn of your choice\, worsted-to-bulky-weight\, in any color.  Patterns for the simple Snuggle blankets (both knitted and crocheted) will be available at the meeting or can be downloaded in advance from The Snuggles Project website at SnugglesProject.org.  We will also have on hand a small quantity of acrylic yarn that members may use to make their blankets\, so arrive early if you need yarn.  We hope to warm up as many of our furry friends at Special Pals as possible this winter\, so please plan to join us in January for knitting\, refreshments\, prizes\, and fun.
