The goal is to have 50 hats ready by October 1 for distribution to HISD schools. \nWe also have several kits for Knitted Knockers ready to go. These are always in demand and we’d love to collect as many as we can for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October! \nOur charity yarn stash is running low\, please consider donating or asking friends to search their stash for acrylic yarns of various weights. \nSpeaking of stash\, Ravelry has several patterns including the Snippet Scarf and Stashbuster Scarf that create fringe instead of ends to weave in. The Fidget Sleeve is also a good stash eater. \nWe have many infant hats. Please consider making an infant blanket 24″x36″ or larger that will go to Project Linus or LBJ pediatric unit.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a program on the Basics of Tunisian Crochet. Tracy Reid will be showing us how to do this fun craft. \nNo homework is necessary\, but those who would like to try making a small swatch can bring some light-colored worsted or DK weight yarn and a straight\, non-ergonomic crochet hook that is 2 to 3 sizes larger than what is recommended for the yarn.\nA Tunisian crochet hook is not necessary for a small sample\, but if you already have one feel free to bring it. An instructional handout will be provided for those who want to try practicing on their own. Tracy will bring finished projects\, swatches\, tools and a couple books to share as well. \nShe will be using this free pattern for the demo and swatch. \nMany members often come early to have dinner and show support for the restaurant and their generosity in letting us meet there. Guild members and visitors are welcome to join us!

Meetings will be in the Fonteno Center\, 6600 Bissonnet (about 2 blocks west of our usual location) \n  \n Knitting With Wire \nKathy Wells will teach us how to knit with wire! We’ll make a necklace using knitted wire shapes\, a few beads and cord. Bring your own needles —sizes 5 or 6 – and 2-3 stitch holders.  Other materials will be provided\, but if you have 3-4 beads you would like to use\, they need to be medium-large beads (not seed beads)\, with holes large enough for fingering weight yarn to pass through.
