DESCRIPTION:The next KANG event will be held on April 27\,  2019\, from 9:00am to 1:00pm at the Kingwood Medical Center.   \nThe theme of the knit-in is Hats for Charity.   We will be knitting and accepting hats for preemies\, children\, women\, and men\, along with the Head Start hats.  We have a special request for preemie hats and blankets for the fetal bereavement program at Memorial Hermann Greater Heights Hospital in Houston.  Bev’s Baby Rib Hat for 2-3 pound preemies is a good option\, and Micro Preemie Hats for the smallest babies.  Blankets should be 20″ – 22″ square.  Color is not a concern\, but please stay away from brown\, black\, and solid white.  We will pass out tickets for the number of items brought to the event and will draw for prizes.   \n \nThere will be a featured speaker for the Head Start hat program\, along with the area coordinator for Knitted Knockers.  We will also have a silent auction for our donated\, high-quality yarn which is not suitable for charity knitting.  Plus\, bring a knit or crochet related wrapped gift for a special\, fun game ($10 – $15 limit)\, and canned or non-perishable items for donation to a local food pantry.  All auction proceeds and donated food items will go to Humble Area Ministries.\n \nKIK will provide hot coffee\, tea\, and hot chocolate\, plus bottled water.  Please bring finger foods to share.\n \nIf you would like to donate yarn for charity use\, it must be worsted weight\, machine washable and dryable.  Small quantities of yarn are acceptable as long as they meet the above stated requirements.

DESCRIPTION:Do you need some Short-Attention Span knitting? Well\, join us at KNOW on Monday\, March 25th at 6:30 pm for a fun program by Bethel King on knitting Tawashi Knots! What are Tawashi Knots? They are useful little projects you can wash dishes with or use as soft scrubbies to wash your face. Perfect for gift-giving with a lovely bar of soap\, a nice cleanser\, or a matching knitted washcloth! This item combines knitting AND origami – so please join us for this innovative project.\n \nWe will be using the Tawashi Knots pattern\, which is free on Ravelry. We will provide copies of the pattern at the meeting. \n \n \n \nYou will need: \n\nWorsted-weight cotton yarn such as Peaches and Cream or Sugar and Cream in 2 colors (partial balls will definitely work as these can be stash-busters).  One color can be the new “Scrubby” or “Cotton Scrubby” yarn but the first time through\, regular worsted-weight cotton yarn is recommended.\nSize 6 knitting needles – can be straights or circulars (I normally use 7’s for cotton but you want a bit tighter gauge to increase the scrubbiness). \n5 Stitch Markers \nYarn needle for sewing in ends.\n\n \nFor Crocheters: You can use the Whirligig-Tawashi pattern (also free on Ravelry) as an alternate with a G hook.  We will provide copies of the pattern at the meeting. \n \nOur chapter meets at Spring Creek Barbecue (corner of I-10 and Westgreen) in Katy from 6:30-8:30 pm. Many of our members arrive early at the restaurant to have dinner. Everyone is welcome.

DESCRIPTION:Get ready\, Valentines!  On Monday\, February 25\, 2019\, the KNOW chapter will host a Benefit for the Peyton Heart Project.  We will be knitting and crocheting colorful hearts as part of a worldwide mission to bring awareness to the issues of teen suicide and bullying\, to show people that their lives are worth living\, and that every life matters.  We will be adding special tags to our hearts identifying them as part of the Project. The hearts may then be scattered at large in your community or be part of our chapter donation to the Peyton Heart Project here in Texas.  \nBring scraps of worsted-weight yarn in cheerful colors (no angora or mohair) along with your choice of knitting needles (both straight and circular) and/or crochet hooks. We will provide more information about the project; patterns for both knitted and crocheted hearts; tags to attach to your heart(s); and a delicious\, heart-y dessert. In addition\, a grand prize will be awarded to the person who completes the most hearts during the meeting!  Please plan to join your friends for an evening of knitting\, crocheting\, and becoming part of this important effort to increase self-esteem among our youth.

DESCRIPTION:Join SoCK in our shawl KAL.  Choose a pattern\, your colorway\, bring your yarn and needles and let’s begin.  The pattern choices are:  Antarktis by Janina Kallio\, available for purchase on Ravelry  OR  Diffusion by Tetiana Otruta\, a free pattern available from Knitpicks.  Both are asymmetric triangular shawls.   \n \nAntarktis ShawlDiffusion Shawl\n \nAntarktis alternates garter stitch and lace sections.  You could use one colorway or alternate the sections in different colors\, or blend two colors.  Diffusion is worked sideways in garter stitch with simple lace.  This shawl could use as many as five colors\, two colors\,  on just one.  It’s your choice!  This is an excellent opportunity to dig into your stash and be creative.   \n \nA yarn swift and ball winder will be available if you need help getting started.  Looking forward to seeing everyone’s choices.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for Sea Purls 2019 and enjoy four days with a great group of knitting enthusiasts\, family and friends! We will sail from Galveston to Cozumel on the Carnival Freedom on Saturday 2/09/19 at 4 PM. We will have a day at sea on Sunday 2/10\, visit Cozumel on Monday 2/11\, have another day at sea on Tuesday 2/12 and arrive back in Galveston at 8:30am Wednesday 2/13. \n\nOur knitting workshops will take place during our two days at sea. DESCRIPTION:  \nWe are pleased to announce that KANG will host a workshop and trunk show featuring Alissa Barton of Knitting Fairy Designs in February 2019.  A teacher with more than 30 years’ experience\, Alissa is known throughout the fiber community as its go-to source for anything and everything involving knitting\, from cast-on to bind-off.  Her Knitting Fairy patterns have been published in a variety of magazines and are available on Ravelry.  Alissa has taught classes at workshops\, guilds\, and retreats throughout the country since 1990\, having most recently been an instructor at the Lambs on the Run retreat in Breckenridge\, Colorado\, along with Ann Budd\, Romi Hill\, Jennifer Miller\, and Norah Gaughan. \nThe workshop will be held on Saturday and Sunday\, February 2nd and 3rd\, at the Courtyard by Marriott Westchase\, 9975 Westheimer\, Houston\, Texas\, 77042 (between Beltway 8 and S. DESCRIPTION:At our KNOW meeting on January 28\, well-known Katy artist and knitting instructor Sony Hartley will present her program which was originally scheduled for October. During the program\, “Decorative Cast-on Techniques\,” Sony will teach three different ways to cast on a knitting project:  The I-cord Cast-on\, Picot Cast-on\, and Flower Cast-on.  In order to participate\, bring worsted-weight yarn\, any type of knitting needles size 8-10\, and a crochet hook size C or smaller. DESCRIPTION:Join us Saturday\, January 19\,2019 in the Kingwood room at the Kingwood Medical Center.  Our meeting is 10:00 to 12:00.  \nJanuary program is “How to use your stash” with Doris Scott of Yarn Store Boutique.  Bring any/all your stash yarns of any gauge.  It will be put on a table and combined with everyone’s stash.  Doris will help us to make a project. She will help us pick colors to blend yarn for the project.  Also bring size 11 and size 13 needles. Do not worry about gauge as we will be knitting with 3 strands. If you have stash yarn that you want  to retain but want to use for the project\, do not place on center table. We will be making a small lap blanket either in stripes or fade.
