DESCRIPTION:On Monday\, July 29\, we at KNOW are hosting a benefit for the NICU at Texas Children’s Hospital in Katy.  We will be knitting and crocheting preemie hats\, so bring your soft\, brightly-colored yarn scraps and appropriate needles.  Leftover\, superwash sock yarn is perfect for these tiny hats.  The NICU is also accepting baby blankets for those of you who are so inclined. \nWe will be providing patterns for both knitted and crocheted versions of preemie hats.  These patterns are written in the round using fingering/sport-weight yarn and size 4 needles/size 7 hooks.  You are also welcome to bring your favorite patterns\, bearing in mind that your hats should fit anywhere from a  lemon to an orange. \nPlease join us so that we can have a robust response to the needs of the babies at Texas Children’s.  See you there!

DESCRIPTION:We have an exciting program for our July 20th meeting in Kingwood.  Crystal Smith from the KNIT chapter will be presenting a program on using beads with knitting.  The program will cover information for beginners as well as advanced knitters.   Those with more experience are encouraged to bring their projects to show and discuss.  Materials needed are fingering weight yarn (solid\, lighter colors are best) and size 6 or 8 beads.  You will also need a beading tool.  a size 1.25 mm crochet hook will work.  She will bring other materials to use if you do not have the tool. \nKIK meets at the Kingwood Medical Center in the Kingwood Room from 10:00 am to 12:00.  We meet on the 3rd Saturday.  The address is 22999 Hwy 59 N. DESCRIPTION:  \nAt our meeting on Monday\, April 29\, longtime Guild member Jan Clark will show us how to knit mitered squares.  Please bring a small amount of yarn (scraps of leftover sock yarn are perfect)\, needles in a size appropriate for your yarn\, and a safety-pin-type marker. We will be learning to pick up stitches and knit double decreases.  Jan will have handouts available.

SUMMARY:Spring Charity Event
DESCRIPTION:The next KANG event will be held on April 27\,  2019\, from 9:00am to 1:00pm at the Kingwood Medical Center.   \nThe theme of the knit-in is Hats for Charity.   We will be knitting and accepting hats for preemies\, children\, women\, and men\, along with the Head Start hats.  We have a special request for preemie hats and blankets for the fetal bereavement program at Memorial Hermann Greater Heights Hospital in Houston.  Bev’s Baby Rib Hat for 2-3 pound preemies is a good option\, and Micro Preemie Hats for the smallest babies.  Blankets should be 20″ – 22″ square.  Color is not a concern\, but please stay away from brown\, black\, and solid white.  We will pass out tickets for the number of items brought to the event and will draw for prizes.   \n \nThere will be a featured speaker for the Head Start hat program\, along with the area coordinator for Knitted Knockers.  We will also have a silent auction for our donated\, high-quality yarn which is not suitable for charity knitting.  Plus\, bring a knit or crochet related wrapped gift for a special\, fun game ($10 – $15 limit)\, and canned or non-perishable items for donation to a local food pantry.  All auction proceeds and donated food items will go to Humble Area Ministries.\n \nKIK will provide hot coffee\, tea\, and hot chocolate\, plus bottled water.  Please bring finger foods to share.\n \nIf you would like to donate yarn for charity use\, it must be worsted weight\, machine washable and dryable.  Small quantities of yarn are acceptable as long as they meet the above stated requirements.

DESCRIPTION:We meet at Kingwood Medical Center in the Kingwood room on the third Saturday of the month at 10 am. I’m looking forward to our April  20\, 2019\,  program with  Elizabeth Spies teaching us how to knit cables without cable needles.   \nMaterials needed are worsted weight yarn\, in a solid\, light color and a needle of the size normally used for that weight yarn.   \nHomework.  Cast on 24 stitches and knit 4 rows even\, then begin pattern as follows: \nRow 1:  K2\, P4\, K4\, P4\, K4\, P4\, K2   Row 2:  K6\, P4\, K4\, P4\, K6.   \nRepeat rows 1 and 2 once more\, for a total of 8 rows from the cast on edge.
