DESCRIPTION:This year’s SoCK programs are designed to elevate your skills. For the September meeting\, we’ll kick off our yearly challenge. The theme is “Making those UFOs become FOs.” For the challenge kickoff\, there will be a prize for the person who brings the most UFOs (or photo evidence of them) to the meeting. At the end of the year\, there will be prizes for the most completed UFOs. \nYou also can challenge yourself to dig into new skills you want to learn! Upcoming programs are on short rows\, socks\, backward knitting and knitting styles\, Portuguese knitting\, crochet skills\, Knit Companion Part 2\, yarn dyeing with Koolaid\, and Granny Square crochet! SUMMARY:Knitting in the Daytime (KIND)
DESCRIPTION:At our September 19th program for KIND\, Kate Wilson will teach us the Finchley Graft. This is a much easier alternative to the Kitchener stitch for grafting two pieces together. The homework for the program is as follows: \nHOMEWORK \nMaterials: 2 swatches (directions below) using a smooth worsted-weight yarn\, and a tapestry needle. I found that a straight needle was easier than using the type with a bent tip. \nMake 2 swatches.\nFor each swatch\, cast on 10 stitches and knit in stockinette stitch for about 2” ending with a knit row. Cut the yarn\, leaving a tail about 10” long. Leave the stitches on the needle. \nIf you don’t have two sets of needles the same size\, after finishing the first swatch\, slide the finished swatch onto a smaller size needle to free up your needles for the second swatch.

SUMMARY:Knitters Night Out West (KNOW)
DESCRIPTION:Bringing it Alive with Seaming – hands-on workshop and seaming demonstration \nSeaming techniques for shoulders\, vertical and horizontal adjustments \nAre you making good progress on your sweaters this year? I hope this month’s topic catches you when you are getting close to putting your sweater together. This month we will delve into seaming. We will be seaming horizontally\, vertically\, and cast-on to cast-off.\nYou must prepare and block several small swatches in worsted-weight yarn to participate. Please use a long-tail cast-on and a regular bind-off.\nPlease make two 3″ x 6″ swatches and two 3″ x 3″ squares. It might be easiest if they aren’t in variegated yarn. Bring the swatches\, a ruler\, calculator or other way to do math\, a pencil\, a yarn needle\, and yarn scraps to use in seaming. You may choose to use a different color for seaming so you can see what is happening. \nMany members often come early to have dinner and show support for the restaurant and their generosity in letting us meet there. Guild members and visitors are welcome to join us!
