This month, KNOW Member and lace knitter extraordinaire Janet Lauland will present a program for us called, “Lace Knitting Tips and Tricks.”  Topics to be covered include choosing appropriate yarn and needles, lifelines, working with charts, and more. This particular program was written by our lace designer-in-residence and CHIX member Rose Williams, so you won’t want to miss it!

SoCK Mtg – Knitting Origins

SoCK Mtg – Knitting Origins

Have you ever wondered about the origins of knitting?  Stopped to think, who came up with the idea of taking two sticks and some string and making a sock?  Just how old is knitting?  What were the first knitted items?  Wonder no more.  Come learn about the beginnings of knitting through the medieval period.  Learn about where knitting began and what people in the dark ages knitted.  There will be pictures of pieces from the medieval age, reproductions, and patterns based upon historical pieces.  All taught by a noble woman from the 1300s.

KNOT Mtg – Dyeing Demo

KNOT Mtg – Dyeing Demo

Knitters North of Town (KNOT) will not be meeting at our regular time or place in July!

Instead we will be meeting at 10:30am at Mohair &More (231 Gibbs Street,  New Waverly, Texas 77358) for a dying Demonstration with Louise and Bill Lane.  Yarn and fiber will be available for purchase as your canvas for dying and the artist in you will be revealed!  If you plan on attending please contact Louise at 936-661-8022.  This will give her an idea of how many to look forward to coming.  Bring your knitting and crochet and enjoy visiting with fiber friends.

Houston Fiber Fest 2017

Houston Fiber Fest 2017

There’s more to Houston Fiber Fest than just classes and shopping; there’s also the fun of meeting new friends! The Meet-Up Table in the atrium (look for the balloons!) is the place to be. There will be knit- and crochet-alongs, stitch marker swaps, demos, and lots of opportunities for you to talk with other Houston area fiber enthusiasts who share your interests. When the vendor hall closes on Friday and Saturday evening, gather at the table to coordinate group outings to local restaurants.

SoCK Mtg – New Year, New Technique!

SoCK Mtg – New Year, New Technique!

It’s a new year (okay, a month in, but close enough), so it’s time to learn a new technique. SoCK will be starting it’s annual New Year! New Technique! Crafty class. This time we’re learning how to make lace shawls. We’ll be watching the “My First Lace Shawl” Crafty class. You do not need to purchase the class to attend the meetings, but if you want to view it on your own time, or if you want the pattern, you do need to purchase the class. Make sure to purchase it from the Craftsy link. (KANG gets a portion of the proceeds for every class purchased that way).

In February we will be watching Lesson 1 – Introduction and Gauge Swatching.  Please see the Facebook Event for more details.
