From Our President – August 2025

We are ready to turn over management of the Guild to a new set of officers at the handover meeting on August 2. Thanks to all of you who volunteered to be officers for the coming year as well as those of you who were officers this past year. The Guild would not exist without you! Check the column to the right for a list of all new officers.

I’ve been busy knitting this month. I finished another Emotional Support Chicken (Henrietta) to keep my first one company; a Marisol top which I love – it fits perfectly; and mattress stitching together blanket squares for the KIND chapter. The blankets will go to Project Linus.

Our next board meeting will be August 19. All the board meetings are held on Zoom and any members are welcome to attend – contact Lauren at kangwebmaster@gmail.com for a link to the Zoom call if you are interested.

Charity Knitting – Jul 2025

The KNIT chapter used some of their chapter funds and invited all guild members to their June meeting to make blankets for the Linus Project! They used fleece and added crochet borders for single-layer blankets, and made some double-thick blankets with tied edges.

We received two large donations of yarn:

  1. One is (mostly) Paintbox chunky, DK and cotton aran;
  2. the other is all Berroco Comfort!

All are mostly full skeins and in many colors; please contact your Charity chairs if you would like to pick some up for a charity project!

From Our President – July 2025

We have new officers! With a unanimous vote from the chapters, the following people will take over as new officers on August 1:

KANG Secretary – Jayne Jones (SoCK)

KANG Treasurer – Deanne Nirider (SoCK)

Charity Chairpersons – Linda Currie (KIK) and Nancy Smith (KNOW)

Workshop Chairpersons – Nancy Polychronopoulis (KNOW) and Ann Cole (KNOW)

Thanks to all of them for volunteering!

Charity Knitting – Jun 2025

The Women’s Hospital of Texas received eight hats and one shawl.
The Landing received 21 knitted pouches and ten sewn bags via the KNOW charity event and other contributors.
These organizations are VERY grateful.

We received two large donations of yarn:

  • one is (mostly) Paintbox chunky, DK and cotton aran;
  • the other is all Berroco Comfort!

All are mostly full skeins and in many colors; please contact your Charity chairs if you would like to pick some up for a charity project!

From Our President – June 2025

It’s June 1 – the start of hurricane season. Think positive – knitting requires no power! It’s also time to elect new officers for the upcoming year. At your chapter meetings this month, you will be asked to vote on the following nominees:

  • KANG Secretary – Jayne Jones (SoCK)
  • KANG Treasurer – Deanne Nirider (SoCK)
  • Charity Chairpersons – Linda Currie (KIK) and Nancy Smith (KNOW)
  • Workshop Chairpersons – Nancy Polychronopoulis (KNOW) and Ann Cole (KNOW)

I’ve been knitting non-stop for the last month and have finished and blocked both a Spindrift scarf and a Kyler shawl. Remind me not to make another shawl that big – blocking it was a pain in the ***! (but it’s beautiful!)

Charity Knitting – May 2025

Our group has been asked to help GSK’s Oncology team, which develops medicines for the nation’s cancer patients, in a unique give back to the community. The team will create knitted items for patients that will be distributed nationally by nonprofit Knots of Love. This will take place during a team event on May 12th in The Woodlands, TX

They’re looking for 20-25 enthusiastic and experienced knitters to provide support during the event. You will assist participants in using Addi circular knitting machines to create unique items for cancer patients.

Your role will be to guide and assist table teams of 5 people to cast on their yarn, change colors and finish their item. If you’re experienced with circular knitting machines, that’s a bonus.

Preliminary Agenda:

2:00 PM Arrival at The Woodlands Resort Hilton; Introduction and Set-up

5:00 PM Giveback Round One

5:45 PM Giveback Round Two

6:45 PM Pack-up

7:15 PM Dinner

As a thank you for your time and expertise, you will receive $200 and dinner with the knitters. We’ll also be distributing some of the Addi machines to those helping us who want to continue to create hats for Knots for Love.

Available, experienced and interested? Please send an email to Kristine Jones at kjones@cubistmediagroup.com by Tuesday, May 6. We’re excited to work together and make this a memorable event for a great cause!
