Charity Knitting – April 2022 Update

Hello all KANG knitters and crochet artists!

We have had a busy month in charity. We had the opportunity to send our works to Berlin, Germany; for distribution to Ukraine refugees. Our charity coordinators drove all over town, picking up items from charity knitters.

We collected two large boxes weighing a total of 60 lbs and shipped them to Berlin. Our Berlin contacts pedi-biked our contributions to the refugee donation drop-off site. With the warming weather, the refugee services in Berlin is no longer requesting hats, blankets and scarves. If the world doesn’t settle by October, charity coordinators will look to make another shipment to Europe.

Meanwhile, our charity knit-together event in Katy, at the No Label brewery was fabulous. The weather was perfect. There was food, girl scouts selling cookies, tasty beverages, and many knitters and crocheters.

Charity coordinators collected 42 wool hats, an additional 70 other hats of all sizes, 8 blankets, 29 scarves, 3 pair of slippers, 4 shawls and 6 headbands. Charity coordinators are preparing a semi-annual drop off with Children’s Safe Harbor in Conroe. Child items will go there. The rest will be collected and held until the colder months arrive again.

Our next Charity Knit Together will be 1 May 2022. Charity coordinators are working on the location, so keep an eye on the KANG website and/or our Facebook page.
Membership to KANG is not a requirement to attend our charity knit-together events. Feel free to bring a friend.
As a reminder. At charity knit-together events:
  • Bring needles or crochet hooks
  • Bring your favorite pattern
  • Do NOT bring yarn, we have plenty for you to choose from
  • Bring your completed items to add to the collection
  • optional) a folding chair and a bottle of water for yourself

What to make for charity: hats, scarves, blankets, shawls, socks, mittens, gloves, stuffed toys, wash cloths, head bands, slippers/booties, sweaters, cowls; ALL sizes from preemie to XXL adult.

Charity Knitting – March 2022 Update

Our Charity Knit Together event that was originally planned for February has been re-scheduled for March 19 Noon – 3PM at No Label Brewing in Katy (5351 1st St, Katy, Texas). Watch Facebook and Website posts for any change in plans.

Parking is pretty easy, there are usually food trucks, sometimes a live band, and a large variety of beers on tap. We will be there with our teal suitcase of charity yarn. Make plans to come out and drop off your worked items, shop for new charity yarn, and catch up with friends from other chapters. KANG and non-KANG members are welcome!

Seating is outdoors; so, if it rains, we will reschedule. Watch KANG website, Facebook, or write to [email protected] for updates.

Call for Charity Items

From our Charity Co-Chairs:

My nephew lives in Berlin and is working directly with Ukraine refugees pouring into Germany. He says the folks are in need and will take anything we have ready: hats, scarves, blankets, mittens, toys, etc.!!
I am putting together a box of items we have already collected to be shipped on Wednesday, March 2nd. Sarah Hartman and I are willing to pick up/collect any items you all may have.
Please PM Marie or Sarah, or send a note to [email protected] if you have items to donate and need to coordinate at drop-off/pick-up.

Marie and Sarah

Charity Knitting – January 2022 Update

Hello Knitters (and Crocheters/hookers) from your charity co-chairs.

First, we would like to congratulate everyone. We partnered with the Eastern Star organization and the local Robin Hood organization and delivered blankets, hats and scarves to homeless right here in downtown Houston. Eastern Star and Robin Hood posted their thanks for our hard work.

Between November and December, Knit at Night Guild has donated 10 blankets, 3 dozen scarves, and 7 dozen hats to the Robin Hood organization.

For those interested, click on the link to the left for a 5 min. YouTube video that the Robin Hood organization put together.

Our next charity knit-together will be in February. Stay tuned to Facebook and newsletters to watch for our next date. In the meantime, contact Sarah or Marie directly at [email protected] if your completed charity items need to move out of your house before February.

We collect: hats, scarves, sweaters (human and dog), blankets, mittens, gloves, stuffed toys, socks and slippers for a variety of charities that include:

  • Battered Women’s shelters
  • Children’s charities
  • Neo-natal care
  • Animal shelters
