Houston Fiber Fest – Houston, TX

SAVE THE DATE!!

HOWDY, Y’ALL! Did you miss us? We missed you! We are so excited to announce that Houston Fiber Fest will return in 2025! We’re making some changes this year.

The biggest and most obvious one you’ll notice is that our vendor hall will only be open on Friday and Saturday this year. Venue rental costs have skyrocketed since the start of the pandemic, and unfortunately our income has not.
There is also a possibility we may have to charge attendees a small entrance fee. We’re exploring sponsorship options to see if we can avoid that. Since we are not independently wealthy (If you know any lottery winners, please send them our way!), this event has to pay for itself in order to be sustainable. We’re doing what we can to try and make that happen.
We are run entirely by volunteers, which helps a lot. The income from an entrance fee, plus the money we save by not renting the vendor hall for a third day, was enough to balance the budget for this year. We know that’s not the best news, but we’re going to have a fun year anyway!

Charity Event – SAVE THE DATE

We have 15 Head Start hats on hand and 8 kits with pattern and pre-cut yarn are ready to go. Contact wheeler.julie@comcast.net for more info. The goal is to have 50 hats ready by October 1 for distribution to HISD schools.

We also have several kits for Knitted Knockers ready to go. These are always in demand and we’d love to collect as many as we can for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October!

Our charity yarn stash is running low, please consider donating or asking friends to search their stash for acrylic yarns of various weights.

Knitters Night Out West (KNOW)

Join us for a program on the Basics of Tunisian Crochet. Tracy Reid will be showing us how to do this fun craft.

No homework is necessary, but those who would like to try making a small swatch can bring some light-colored worsted or DK weight yarn and a straight, non-ergonomic crochet hook that is 2 to 3 sizes larger than what is recommended for the yarn.
A Tunisian crochet hook is not necessary for a small sample, but if you already have one feel free to bring it. An instructional handout will be provided for those who want to try practicing on their own. Tracy will bring finished projects, swatches, tools and a couple books to share as well.

She will be using this free pattern for the demo and swatch.

Many members often come early to have dinner and show support for the restaurant and their generosity in letting us meet there. Guild members and visitors are welcome to join us!
