KIK Meeting – Open Knitting & Charity

JANUARY MEETING LOCATION: We will meet UPSTAIRS in the Conference Room
Thanks to everyone for the great food and gifts last month at the holiday party!
This month we will have Open Knitting and a discussion about the plans for our charity knitting for the new year.

This month we will work on our Scrappy Cowl KAL (or your own project) and then our Holiday Party!
Bring whatever dish you’ve decided on and a $20 GIFT for our gift exchange??‍?. Bring your finished projects for Show and Share!

REMINDER: NEW MEETING LOCATION!
KIK meetings have moved to a new location – Harris County Public Library, Kingwood Branch. We will meet in the large room to your right as you enter the library.
This month we will have Open Knitting and a discussion about the plans for our Holiday Party in December. We’ll also talk about our plans for Fall and Winter projects and gifts.

We’ll have a yarn swap so bring yarn that you aren’t planning to use and if you have small ends, mixed weights work!, put those together and we’ll share a free pattern for a Scrappy Cowl. (If you were with us last month you already have the link!!)

KIK Meeting – Open Knit & Peyton Heart Charity

NEW MEETING LOCATION!
KIK meetings have moved to a new location – Harris County Public Library, Kingwood Branch. We will meet in the large room to your right as you enter the library.
This month we will have Open Knitting and Charity Knitting of hearts for the Peyton Heart Project. Pattern will be provided just bring your needles and any leftover bits of yarn you have – any color!

KIK Meeting – Dorset Buttons

NEW MEETING LOCATION!
KIK meetings have moved to a new location – Harris County Public Library, Kingwood Branch. We will meet in the large room to your right as you enter the library.
For our program this month, Cynthia Hansen will teach us how to make Dorset Buttons to use as shawl pins. Cyn will provide materials and direction sheets.
For those with experience, she will bring more detailed “next steps” instruction sheets to embellish the buttons. Everyone attending should bring a tapestry needle and pointy scissors, such as those used for embroidery.

KIK Meeting – Afterthought Sock Heel

The afterthought heel is a term coined by the late Elizabeth Zimmerman in her “Knitting Without Tears” book. The heel is knitted after the leg and foot of your sock are completed. It’s a great technique to know for working heels in a contrasting color.

At our July meeting, Irene Piatek will teach us how to knit this heel.

KIK Meeting – My Favorite Shawl

Most of us have knitted a shawl or two, so let’s show off our work and compare notes.

Bring your favorite shawl to show and share!! Also, please bring the pattern, yarn, and needle size you used. We can all get some ideas for future projects.

KIK Meeting – Knitting Jewelry

Come and learn how to knit a beaded I-cord necklace from sock yarn scraps!

Once you learn this simple technique, you can personalize your necklaces with various sizes of yarn and beads.

 

What to Bring:

  • two, double-pointed needles size US size 1.5 or 2
  • Bring your own sock yarn scraps or choose a color from yarn that will provided at the meeting

Other materials, including beads, will be provided

KIK Meeting – Easter Basket Parade

Last month we learned how to knit baskets and eggs, so this month we will show off our finished items and have a contest.

Bring your finished Easter baskets filled with knitted eggs, and we will vote on them. The winner will receive a prize!
