Knitters Night Out West (KNOW)

Our sweater series is drawing to a close. It’s time for closure on our sweaters! Button Bands! (Did you see what I did there?)

At the October meeting, we will discuss various buttonholes you can knit, how to plan out their placement, and how to stabilize buttons on a knitted garment. In the workshop portion, we will pick up and knit a button band with buttonholes.

*NOTE: Please bring two 3  x 6  blocked stockinette pieces in worsted weight yarn, knitting needles the same size you knitted with, and additional worsted weight yarn to knit the bands.

Also, if you have any additional questions or concerns particular to your project, please email your questions to [email protected]. And I will prepare my best answers for the meeting to help you be successful. Don’t forget that December will be our show and tell time!

I’m finishing up my sweater for then too.

Knitting in the Daytime (KIND)

The program for the October 19th KIND meeting will be presented by Valarie Nicholson. The topic for the program will be Russian Grafting, an alternative to the Kitchener Stitch, which uses a crochet hook rather than a darning needle.

Homework:

Materials:

  • One swatch using worsted weight yarn
  • 2 dpns and a crochet hook sized for your yarn, example 6-9 sized needles= a K hook.

Make one swatch

Cast on 20 stitches and knit in Stockinette stitches for about 2 inches ending with a knit row.
Transfer stitches evenly onto the dpns.

Saturday Cypress Knitters (SoCK)

Experience the magic of short rows.

Short rows let you add interesting design elements to your projects and improve the fit of your garments. Practice Wrap & Turn, German, Japanese, and Twin Stitch (fish lips kiss) techniques. Learn why some methods are more suited to stockinette and garter stitch and why some are more visible on the back side of your work.

Bring smooth yarn (worsted or DK weight) and suitable needles.
