KNOW Meeting – Needle Tasting!
Knitter’s Night Out West (KNOW) meets from 6:30-8:30pm on the last Monday of each month (except in May and December) at Spring Creek Barbeque, 21000 Katy Freeway, I-10 at Westgreen Blvd in Katy. Many of our members arrive early to have dinner and socialize before the meeting. Everyone is welcome!
Join us in September for a Needle tasting! Tools can make a difference in the quality, enjoyment and speed of our knitting. However, they can be pricey, especially if purchased in a set. Our Program Chair, Gloria Chuckman, will be leading us in trying out a variety of needles, from trendy tips to bent shorties.
SoCK Meeting – Shadow Knitting
Have you heard of Shadow Knitting, or Illusion Knitting? Join SoCK this month with Andrea Conrad from KIK. She will be presenting this technique.
Bring two colors of yarn, contrasting is better, a dark color and a lighter one. You will also need to bring appropriate needles. We will be working on a coaster
KNIT Meeting – Using Beads
Our very own Crystal Smith will present a program on using beads with knitting. The program covers information for beginners as well as advanced knitters. Those with more experience are encouraged to bring their projects to show and discuss.
If you want to practice the techniques discussed, bring fingering weight yarn (solid, lighter colors are best), size 6 or 8 beads, and some type of beading tool (a 1.25mm crochet hook will work.) If you do not have a 1.25mm hook or a beading tool, Crystal will bring other options as a substitute.
CHIX Meeting – Dropped stitches
Drop it like it’s hot…
We will be dropping stitches in our knitting and crochet. Come and join us to learn how and why.
Supplies:
- Sport or worsted yarn
- Size 8 knitting needle
- Size 15 knitting needle
- 5mm crochet hook
- Normal supplies
If you have any dropped stitch items, bring for show and share. I will have samples.
KIK Meeting – Reading charts
Have you missed a ,*( ) in reading a pattern? A chart can be a visable way to read patterns. They are available with a lot of patterns and can save you time. KIK’s program this month will be “Taking the Mystery out of Reading Charts”, presented by Connie Blakeley of the KIK Chapter.
KIND Meeting – Yarn Substitution
Do you have a pattern you like but don’t want to use the yarn the pattern calls for? Sandy Zeringue, formerly of Knitting in the Loop, will talk about what to look for when substituting yarn.
The KIND chapter meets on the third Friday of each month from 10am to noon at the Bayland Community Center. The Center is located at 6400 Bissonnet, near Bissonnet and Hillcroft.
KNOW Meeting – Fades
Fade Away in August! Fades are still a fun trend in the knitting world. Join us at our August meeting where we’ll discuss several ways to transition between different colors or values in your knitting. To sample one or more fade methods, bring yarn in at least 2 colors that are close to each other in value or hue, and bring 1 color that contrasts, along with the appropriate needles and the usual knitting tools. And bring any projects with a fade to share!

KIK Meeting – History of Knitting
Did you ever want to know how knitting started? At the August meeting we will have an exciting presentation by Elizabeth Spies on the history of knitting. I know I am anxious to learn our history. Come join us!
