KNOW Meeting – Cast On/Bind Off

Join us for a program on a cast on/bind off.
Nancy Polychronopoulos will demonstrate the German Twist cast on and the Icelandic bind off.
Bring yarn (preferably a light-colored solid worsted weight) and appropriately sized needles for that yarn. There is no homework.
Members are also invited to show and share any of your completed projects.
Members often arrive early to visit over dinner and show their support to the restaurant for their generosity in allowing us to meet there. Visitors and members from other chapters are always welcome.

KIND Meeting – Yarn Cake Cast On

Phylis Tomlinson will present the “Yarn Cake Cast On.”

This is a little like burning the candle at both ends! Casting on from both ends of the cake or ball of yarn takes the guess work out of a long-tail cast on. It is simple and can be found on YouTube in a heartbeat, but this is an opportunity to have someone demonstrate and then practice with your fellow knitters.

Please bring a cake of yarn and appropriate-sized needles (straight or circular are both fine.)  If you have a hank and no winder there will be a swift at the meeting to create your cake. If your preference is to hand-wind, do so in a manner in which both ends of the ball are accessible.

KIK Meeting – Dorset Buttons

NEW MEETING LOCATION!
KIK meetings have moved to a new location – Harris County Public Library, Kingwood Branch. We will meet in the large room to your right as you enter the library.
For our program this month, Cynthia Hansen will teach us how to make Dorset Buttons to use as shawl pins. Cyn will provide materials and direction sheets.
For those with experience, she will bring more detailed “next steps” instruction sheets to embellish the buttons. Everyone attending should bring a tapestry needle and pointy scissors, such as those used for embroidery.

SoCK Meeting – Tips & Tricks

August is that time of the year when the pace slows down, and all you want to do is find a cool place to sit, knit (or crochet), and chat with your fellow guild members. Bring projects you’re currently working on and kick back – the program’s more casual this month. Tell the group about your favorite tips, tricks, or projects. Sometimes these golden nuggets are game-changers!

KNOW Meeting – KAL: Multidirectional Diagonal Scarf

KNOW’s July program will be a knit-along presented by Jan Clark. We will be knitting the “Multidirectional Diagonal Scarf“, which is a free pattern available on Ravelry (https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/multidirectional-diagonal-scarf).

 

This scarf looks great with variegated or self-striping yarn. A good yarn to try would be a DK weight, knit with size 6 needles, or try a heavier yarn with appropriate needles for a faster finish. You can use the same yarn throughout or different yarns in each triangular section of the scarf as a way to use some leftover stash yarn. It’s also possible to use two yarns held together for a different look. There are so many possibilities that you may want to make more than one!

This is a fun project for knitters with limited experience and for highly skilled knitters. If you have not previously knit short rows, this is your opportunity to learn!!

KIK Meeting – Afterthought Sock Heel

The afterthought heel is a term coined by the late Elizabeth Zimmerman in her “Knitting Without Tears” book. The heel is knitted after the leg and foot of your sock are completed. It’s a great technique to know for working heels in a contrasting color.

At our July meeting, Irene Piatek will teach us how to knit this heel.

KNIT Meeting – Bead Knitting

KNIT’s July program:

Crystal Smith will lead the July program – the topic is “Knitting with Beads”.
Any materials needed or homework will be supplied in an email to KNIT members.

Also, be sure to bring your recently completed projects for Show & Share!

 

A zoom option is available for those unable to attend in person. Email Karen at knitatnightguildknit@gmail.com if you are not a KNIT member but would like to participate in the meeting.

SoCK Meeting – Needle Felting

Sock member, Ann Wohn, will present a program on “Fun Fiber Crafts” with a focus this month on needle felting. Come learn about supplies, cathartic techniques, and how to get started with a simple clump of wool or felt sheets!

 

While we hope to see you in-person for, there will also be a zoom option for those who are unable to attend live. Just send a note to knitatnightguildsock@gmail.com and we will forward you the dial-in if you are not on our chapter mailing list.
