We’ve had a wonderful increase in charity items coming in recently, and we’re excited to see so many members contributing their time and talent.

Recent Items Received:
Our recent charity collection includes: 

• 3 baby blankets,
• 2 lap blankets,
• 4 shoulder wraps,
• 2 scarves,
• 8 hats,
• 1 small pouch,
• 48 washcloths, and
• 2 knitted knockers

Some of these items have already been designated for charity use, while others are new and awaiting placement. We have several ideas for where these donations can go, and will continue working to match them with appropriate KANG charities.

Head Start Hats
We currently have 102 hats counted for the Head Start program, and that may increase as you continue to donate!!
Thank you to everyone who has knitted and contributed hats. They are beautiful, and we truly appreciate the time and care that went into making them. These will be donated in October–November, when the Head Start program may be needing them. Thank you to everyone who is helping us prepare ahead so these handmade hats will be available for children.

Warm Up America:
We have set aside 53 handmade items for donation to Warm Up America: 

• 1 baby blanket,
• 1 premie hat,
• 1 toddler hat,
• 1 unfinished scarf,
• 29 hats,
• 16 rectangles,
• 2 shawls,
• 1 baby blanket,
• 1 lap blanket,
• 1 small blanket,
• 7 soap sacks, and
• 1 bag of yarn.

These items were selected as a good fit for WUA, and were delivered directly during DFW Fiber Fest.

Charity Planning:
Our new team recently met and shared several ideas for our charity projects, and ways we can better organize and distribute the handmade items that come in.

We hope to share more of these ideas with the chapters, and we plan to visit each chapter in the future to talk about charity projects, hear members’ ideas, and help make it easier to match donated items with the organizations that can use them.

It has been especially encouraging to see the number of donations increase over the last several days. Thank you to everyone who has been knitting, crocheting, collecting, and contributing.

Charity Workshops:
Each chapter: be thinking which month would be best for your chapter to host a charity event! 
Give us your input on preferred location and types of charity workshops so we can have several this year. 

Please Label Your Charity Donations:
To help us find the best home for every handmade item, we are asking knitters & crocheters to please include a note with every donated item.

If possible, please tell us: what the item is, whether it is knitted or crocheted, what type of yarn or fiber was used, if you have a particular charity or type of recipient in mind, any other information that might help us determine where it would be most useful.

If you don’t know which charity would be the best fit, that’s okay. Just give as much information as you can, and we’ll work to match the item with one of KANG’s official charities. Knowing the type of yarn is especially important as some charities have specific requirements for fiber content, washing, or intended use.
