KIND Zoom meeting

We will hold our next few meetings meeting via Zoom until it is safe to meet in person again.  In June, we will not have a regular program but will talk about the knitting projects we have worked on in the last couple months.  Be prepared to show your projects and tell others the pattern name and the type of yarn used.

Date:  June 18
Time:  10:00 am

CHIX Meeting – Line a clutch, insert a zipper

Learn a quick and easy way to line a clutch and insert a zipper. The clutch can be knitted, crocheted or sewn. If you don’t have time to make one then take an old block, fold in half and seam the sides. We will be hand sewing unless you bring a sewing machine. Supplies: scissors, lining fabric (uncut), sewing needle, thread to match zipper, zipper should be longer than your clutch, straight pins or clips, ruler, and thimble (optional).  I have zippers, but they are white. I will bring an iron and cutting mat.

KNIT Meeting – FROG that project!

Our March 10 meeting is all about spring, spring beginnings, spring break.  So to go along with the biggest spring event in Houston we’re going to have the “Rippit Rodeo”.  Bring that project that you’ve wanted to FROG and get it done during our time together.  We’ll have a winder set up available so you can undo the project that’s not going to go any further and get it wound up and ready to go for a new one.  And don’t forget the Poca KAL.  Bring yours and we’ll work through next steps, directions, and questions.

KIND Meeting – CANCELLED

The KIND meeting for March has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 virus.   Bayland Community Center will be closed for all classes and meetings at least through March.

KNOW Meeting – Linen Stitch

Knitter’s Night Out West meets from 6:30 pm – 8:30pm on the last Monday of each month (except in May and December) at Spring Creek Barbeque, 21000 Katy Freeway, I-10 at Westgreen Blvd in Katy.  Many of our members arrive early to have dinner and socialize before the meeting.  Everyone is welcome!

For our March meeting Amelia Speck will give KNOW attendees an overview of the linen stitch and its cousin, the half-linen stitch.  These versatile stitches are lovely in solid yarns but can be magical when used with multi-colored yarns.  The resulting fabric looks and acts woven.  Please bring a selection of yarns: one multi and two complementary solids and needles to try it out for yourself!

Also, I would like KNOW members to think about the upcoming WorldWide Knit in Public Day, Saturday, June 13, 2020.  This event was mention at the last Executive Board Meeting and I would like to get a feel for how KNOW members view this event.  It may be that the KANG will organize something Guild wide but if not, I think it would be great if KNOW could do something.  I look forward to hearing your thoughts either at our upcoming meeting or by email.

KNOT Meeting – Yarn Substitution

Note change in location of meeting this month: KNOT will be having the Meeting February 27th 6:30 to 8:30 pm at Yarn Store Boutique’s new location, 8900 Eastlock Drive, #230, Spring, TX 77379.

Doris Scott will teach us about yarn substitution. Please call the shop if the gate is closed, 281-430-3770.

We are also starting a KAL named “Audition”, and here is a LINK with lots of details, information and resources that have gone out to KNOT members.  Those that are participating in the KAL will need sections 1 and 2 completed by the February meeting as we will be learning the first pattern panel that evening.

KNOW Meeting – Sequence Knitting

Jan Clark will introduce us to Sequence Knitting — repeating a given sequence of knit and purl stitches to create patterns and textures that are often reversible.  Jan will cover the three types of sequences:

  • one-row, in which the sequence length is divisible by the total number of stitches in your row
  • serpentine, in which the sequence length is not an even multiple and has to be completed in the next row
  • spiral, in which the sequence is worked in the round.

Bring Worsted or DK yarn and appropriate size needles and join us!
