CHIX Meeting – Stash Buster

Let’s do a great stash buster. This month will be crochet program introducing the C2C (corner to corner) technique.

Stitches used: chain, dc (double crochet), ss (slip stitch) and slip knot.

Materials: 2 to 3 worsted yarn colors, “H” hook, markers and normal supplies

KNIT Meeting – Knitting as a Form of Protest

Our program for the month is Knitting as a form of Protest with our very own Nancy Polychronopoulos.
Nancy will give a talk on the history of knitting and Crafting in Dissent about crafting as a way to protest – it’s not a new thing!

For our KAL, Step 2 is working the sleeve and dolman shaping — work through page 4 of the pattern which means you will end with the 3 Set Up for the Right Shoulder Rows. ** If you finish this phase up, and want a jump start you can work the Left Sleeve exactly has you have for the right (following the directions on page 6). **

Brioche part 2 assistance will be available for those of us knitting the All About the Brioche shawl.

Lastly a surprise from Ruth’s bag of knitting tricks.  You won’t want to miss this month’s program!

SoCK Meeting – Crocheting

Join SoCK as we learn to crochet. Come learn the stitches necessary to make a stash basket. Bring a H crochet hook. Yarn will be provided. Looking forward to seeing you there.

The next Executive Board Meeting will be held at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, February 18th at the Trini

Mendenhall Sosa Community Center, 1414 Wirt Rd., Houston.

KIND Meeting – Knitting Tips, Tricks, & Hacks

The KIND chapter will meet on Thursday, February 13 at 10am.  This is one week earlier than usual due to voting at the Bayland Center.

We will be talking about Knitting Tips, Tricks, and Hacks.  Please bring the following items:

  • 2 smalls ball of yarn – any weight or color
  • needles an appropriate size for the yarn
  • an empty toilet paper roll
  • scissors

KNOW Meeting – Sweater types

Join us at our January meeting where Roxanne Rump will lead an interactive discussion on some common sweater types, focusing on design considerations as well as pros and cons of each type of construction.  Examples and patterns will be available to demonstrate the concepts discussed.

KIK Meeting – Matching cast-ons and bind-offs

For January’s program, Connie Blakley will review various techniques for casting on and binding off, and how to match your cast-on/bind-off stitches. For those who would like to try some new techniques, we will knit a couple of swatches. Bring some worsted weight yarn in a solid, light color, size 8 knitting needles, and a size G crochet hook.

KIND Meeting – Mitered squares

The January KIND meeting will be held on Jan. 16, 10am at Bayland Community Center. Jan Clark will take us through the techniques needed to make a mitered square project!  Bring assorted colors of scrap yarn, a safety pin to mark your “right side” and appropriate size needles.  Jan used sock yarn for her project.  We will work through picking up stitches and double decreases. And we will discuss different mitered square projects to spark your imagination.  Join us in the new year with mitered squares.

KNIT Meeting – 2-color brioche

Our program for the month is 2-color brioche using the shawl pattern “All About that Brioche” by Lisa Hannes/maliha designs. We will cover the basic brioche stitch and 2-color brioche. Bring two different colors of DK yarn and appropriate size needles AND needles one or two sizes below the appropriate size. If you want, you can knit Part 1 of the body of the shawl according to the pattern (all garter stitch).

If you are following the KAL of Laura Nelkin’s POCA sweater. January is Step 1 – wind your yarn, make a gauge swatch. Just like Laura suggests, start knitting the sleeve. We will make sure you are on gauge for a correct fit.
