Saturday Cypress Knitters (SoCK)

Plans for the Coming Year!!

July’s meeting is a combination of a sit & knit and planning our next year’s programs.
We’ll ask volunteers to claim a particular month. We don’t need you to know exactly what your program will be, just volunteer for a time slot.
We’ll do the same thing for Door Prize volunteers. After that, we’ll show and share finished projects and have a relaxing time just sitting and knitting (or crocheting). Please come be part of this!

CHH Spinners

The Contemporary Handweavers of Houston (CHH) hosts spin-ins twice a month, the first Saturday of each month from 10-12 am, and the third Tuesday of the month at 6:30 pm. Both are held at the CHH Guild House, 1425 Blalock, 2nd floor. If you are a spinner, bring your wheel, drop spindle or e-spinner and check out our group and the guild. Occasionally meeting schedules will vary, so please check the CHH website calendar before heading out. For this and other information, see http://www.weavehouston.org/

Knitters Night Out West (KNOW)

WHERE: Spring Creek Barbeque, 21000 Katy Freeway, I-10 at Westgreen Blvd, Katy, TX

Welcome to the World of Stitch Markers!

Please join us for a presentation by Cindy Long on several examples of stitch markers you can easily make. Everyone will get a kit to make their own markers. For those who wish to make some at the meeting, bring 2 pairs of jewelry pliers and some super glue. Members often arrive early to visit and have dinner at the restaurant to show support for their generosity in allowing us to meet there. Guild members and visitors are welcome.

Knitting in the Daytime (KIND)

NOTE: Change of location for June and July! Meetings will be in the Fonteno Center, 6600 Bissonnet (about 2 blocks west of our usual location)

 Knitting With Wire

Kathy Wells will teach us how to knit with wire! We’ll make a necklace using knitted wire shapes, a few beads and cord. Bring your own needles —sizes 5 or 6 – and 2-3 stitch holders.  Other materials will be provided, but if you have 3-4 beads you would like to use, they need to be medium-large beads (not seed beads), with holes large enough for fingering weight yarn to pass through.

Knitting in Kingwood (KIK)

WHEN: 3rd Saturday of the month, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

WHERE: Kingwood Branch Library, 4400 Bens View Ln, Kingwood, TX 77339

Knitters Night in Town (KNIT)

WHEN: 2nd Tuesday of the month, 6:00-8:00pm.

WHERE: Trini Mendenhall Sosa Community Center, 1414 Wirt Rd, Houston, TX

If you have never made a pair of socks, this tiny project is your perfect chance to give them a try.

Please download the free pattern for Perfect Newborn Socks by Tabitha Gandee.

Bring along a small amount of fingering weight yarn (10-20 grams), and size 2 dpns. Or 24” circular for magic loop.

Completed socks can be given to Julie for our Guild charities.

Some yarn will be provided.

As always bring something (old or new) to show and share and of course any pesky knitting problem you might want help with.

WHERE: Zoom and Weekley Community Center, 8440 Greenhouse Rd, Cypress, TX 77433

SoCK: Year-long Challenge Wrap-up

Bring your completed (or not-so-completed) Challenge Project. (We won’t judge if it’s not finished!) Tell why you selected your project, any pitfalls you encountered, and share what you learned along the way. If you need help completing your project, or just want inspiration, we’re here to help! We’ll also announce the slate of candidates for our 24-25 officers (to be voted on in July). June 8 is World-wide Knit in Public Day. We’ll decide where to have lunch and go knit in public after our meeting! As always, bring any other show & share or charity items.

Katy Lace Knitters

Katy Lace Knitters will meet Tuesday, May 7th, at 11 am at Luby’s on South Mason road. Please join us for our meeting and remain after to visit and eat lunch. We will continue to work on the Huldra shawl. Bring other projects for help or to show what you are currently working on. Hope to see y’all there. Please let me know if you plan to attend at joshanmom@aol.com.

Knitters Night Out West (KNOW)

WHEN: Last Monday of the month (Except May and December), 6:30-8:30pm

WHERE: Spring Creek Barbeque, 21000 Katy Freeway, I-10 at Westgreen Blvd, Katy, TX

Please remember that May’s meeting will be held on Monday, May 20th, instead of the usual last Monday of the month due to the Memorial Day holiday.

We are having a cast-on party! As part of our Adventures in Sweater Knitting series, we will be learning several cast-ons that can be used for starting a sweater. Cathy Drake will be demonstrating the tubular cast-on in ribbing, the picot edge cast-on and the folded edge cast-on (and more if we have time). Please bring yarn and appropriate-sized needles to practice.

As always, visitors and guild members are welcome to join us at Spring Creek BBQ.
