SoCK Meeting – Intro to Cables

Saturday Cypress Knitters (SoCK) – Saturday, September 9, 10:00am – 12:00pm

WHEN: 2nd Saturday of the month, 10am-12pm.

WHERE: Zoom and Weekley Community Center, 8440 Greenhouse Rd, Cypress, TX 77433

Introduction to Cables: Marla Morris will introduce us to cable knitting. This introduction to cables is designed for fairly new knitters who can knit and purl and are ready to increase their skills. She will present a variety of cable stitches, their uses, cable needles, and descriptions. We will look at a chart and a written pattern for the same sample, learn how cable stitches appear on the chart, how they are used in patterns, then how to make them—with and without a cable needle. A Powerpoint presentation and pattern are part of this class, originally designed for a knitting guild format of one hour.

Homework: Using DK or Worsted weight yarn and the appropriate needle sizes, Cast on 27 stitches [3 x 3 rib for 5 rows]

KIND Meeting – 10 Stitch Technique

Hazel Kjos will guide us in learning the Ten Stitch Technique, an easy way to make square objects such as blankets.

For homework: take a favorite solid-colored yarn, cast on 10 stitches and knit in garter stitch for 20 rows (10 ridges.) Slip the first stitch of each row and knit all the way to the last stitch of each row.

At the meeting, Hazel will show the process of mitering to create sharp corners and continuing around the central piece to enlarge it, similar to a Log Cabin Barn Raising quilting pattern.

KNOW Meeting – Round Table: Programs

This month KNOW will be having a round-table discussion on what programs we would like to see coming up!

Members are invited to show and share any of your completed projects.

Members often arrive early to visit over dinner and show their support to the restaurant for their generosity in allowing us to meet there.

Visitors and members from other chapters are always welcome!!
