KNOW Meeting – Summer Tops

KNOW’s April program will be on “Summer Tops for Houston”.

Summer is just around the corner, and it’s time to be inspired by your fellow knitters’ creations and planned projects. All members are invited to wear or bring a Summer Top to our meeting. We’d also encourage everyone to bring a list of favorite designers, patterns, and styles to share and discuss. We’d like to have a yarn taste, so bring any scrap yarn or stash yarn suitable for summer tops, such as linens, cottons, or silk blends.

Members are also invited to show and share any of your completed projects.

 

Members often arrive early to visit over dinner and show their support to the restaurant for their generosity in allowing us to meet there. Visitors and members from other chapters are always welcome.

KIND Meeting – Knitting Jewelry

The April’s program will have a presentation by Penny Hurst on knitting jewelry.

Penny will supply the materials unless you want a specific color bead, which you will need to bring. The beads should be no larger than 1/2 inch and you will need no more than 20-30.

KNIT Meeting – Yarn Substitutions

Starting a new project and want to substitute yarn from your stash rather than buying more yarn or the pattern yarn is no longer available? Have you substituted a yarn and run out of yarn before the project was finished? 

April’s program will address grist – the weight/yard comparisons (density of yarn) – a consideration that is important to ensure you have enough substitute yarn for your project. Members are encouraged to contribute other considerations they have found to be important when making a yarn substitution.

Also, be sure to bring your recently completed projects for Show & Share!

KIK Meeting – Easter Basket Parade

*NOTE: There is a change in date this month!!

Last month we learned how to knit baskets and eggs, so this month we will show off our finished items and have a contest.

Bring your finished Easter baskets filled with knitted eggs, and we will vote on them. The winner will receive a prize!

SoCK Meeting – Yarn Pooling vs. Assigned Pooling

Yarn pooling or assigned pooling, what is the craze?

Join SoCK’s meeting this month for a presentation led by chapter member, Debbie.

What you Need:

KNIT: If you are interested in trying this technique you will need to bring a variegated finger weight yarn, appropriate needles.

CROCHET: Yarn choices for crochet are variegated yarns, red heart, hobby lobby brands I love this cotton. Bring crochet hooks one size smaller than the yarn label suggests, the suggested size and one size larger.

  • For those comfortable and wanting to meet in-person, the meeting will be held in the Richard and Meg Weekly Community Center
  • For those wishing to stay on Zoom, the meeting also will be hosted virtually

KIK Meeting – Baskets & Bowls

Learn how to knit different sizes and styles of baskets and bowls depending on your choice of yarn.

Andrea Conrad will share her knowledge and experience using several patterns which she will bring to the meeting. Some are simple and some are more complicated; all are knit in the round.

 

Homework:
Bring some yarn of worsted or super bulky weight and appropriate size double point or circular needles. Any sturdy yarn can be used, but if you want a felted basket then you’ll need to use 100% wool yarn. This is a good project for scrap yarn, and you can knit with multiple strands of yarn; just be sure to use larger needles.

KNOW Meeting – Familiar Stitch Patterns (Pt. 2)

KNOW’s March program will be the first in a series covering “Familiar Stitch Patterns”.

This month we will focus on the versatile garter stitch and learn some techniques for binding off. We’ll spend some time on the Icelandic bind-off which is fast and stretchy, and also look at a sewn bind-off. Members are also invited to show and share any of your completed projects.
