We will be working on Head Start Hats using this pattern. For every completed hat you bring, you will get an entry for a door prize. AND for every hat you complete during the meeting, you will get an entry for a door prize. In addition to the Head Start Hats, any charity items completed before the end of the meeting will also qualify for a door prize.

KNIT Meeting – Cables
This month’s KNIT meeting promises to be an invaluable learning opportunity. Who doesn’t love the look of perfect cables? Longtime KNOW member and knitting expert Cathy Drake will demonstrate how to achieve them when she presents her program, “Tips and Tricks for a Better Cabling Experience.” Plan to join us as we learn about basic cable construction, different types of cables, how to avoid cable flare and other common pitfalls, and more.
SoCK Meeting – Joining Yarn
Description:Most of us have a favorite way to join yarns when adding a new ball of yarn or changing colors in a project. The program on joining yarns will present five methods of joining yarn: overlapping yarn; felted splice; double knot; Russian join; invisible braided join. You will learn some advantages and disadvantages of each method and types of yarn required.
Homework
Please bring 10 lengths of yarn, each about 8 inches long. At least two pairs should be plied, worsted weight, wool yarn. Other pairs may be synthetic plant or animal fibers. A sharp tapestry needle.
Additional Materials: On the KANG website under “members” you will find a drop-down menu that includes Handouts for each chapter. Please copy the first page of the handout on joining. The second page on the Clasp and Weft join in B & W is not very clean. People who would like to try that method using in weaving can download it for themselves from the website.
CHIX Meeting – Math for Knitters
This month we will talk about how to substitute one weight of yarn for another. If your pattern calls for a DK weight yarn and you want to use fingering weight, what can you do to be sure it fits? This is a follow-up to Sandy Zeringue’s program last month about substituting one fiber for another.
KNOW meeting – Four Corners Skills Workshop
Please join us on May 21, 2018 at our Four-Corners Skills Workshop, where we will be offering members their choice of four classes to be taught by some of our most generous and talented knitters. Most members will be able to participate in two 30-minute classes each. The topics and instructors are:

SoCK Meeting – Independence Fiber Mill
Did you know that there is a fiber mill just 90 minutes from Cypress? There is! Come tour one of the few fiber mills in Texas and learn how commercial yarn is spun, from fleece to final product. And it being spring, there just may be baby goats that need some cuddling. The tour includes both the mill and the dye shed (and the baby goats) and an opportunity to purchase yarn spun by the mill.
All those wishing to carpool to Independence Farmstead Fiber Mill should meet at the Starbucks at 25615 Hwy 290 in Cypress by 8:30 am. The drive to the mill is approximately 1 hour. RSVP is not necessary but if you would like to RSVP, here is the FB link to the carpooling information.
KNIT Meeting – UFOs and Slime!
UFO…not the ET variety, but those Unfinished Objects that knitters try not to identify! Bring your UFOs to the May meeting and spend the evening as a sit-and-stitch.
The second part of the activity is exploring ASMR – Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response. ASMR is a pleasant physical or emotional feeling (not based on science) triggered most often by soft sounds such as vocal fry, rustling leaves, crinkling paper, scratching dry skin, and in this case, SLIME!
Jenny Quattlebaum will provide the fun ingredients including a PVA glue base (Elmer’s School Glue), glitter, beads, and food coloring. Attendees can mix these different mediums to create their own bag of squishy and stretchy slime to take home. Lastly, we will talk about different crunch textures and other sounds or sensations that give us the ol’ warm fuzzies!
