SoCK: Planning, Sit-and-Knit, and Finished Projects
The program combines a sit-and-knit session with planning for next year’s programs. We’ll ask volunteers to claim a particular month. We don’t need you to know your exact program, just volunteer for a time slot. We’ll do the same thing for Door Prize volunteers. After that, we’ll show off finished projects and have a relaxing time sitting and knitting (or crocheting). Please join us!
Granny Squares are Still HOT!
Have you ever wondered what a granny square is? Join Debbie at the June SoCK meeting as we explore the basic construction of a granny square.
HOMEWORK:
Bring four colors of worsted-weight yarn and a 5mm crochet hook.
“Basic Granny Square” by Kristin Campbell-Harris is a free “starter” pattern on Ravelry.
If you are new to crochet, a great (and inexpensive) book is “Crochet Granny Squares” by Publications International Ltd., available on Amazon.
The world of fiber arts has always been a creative realm rooted in tradition and craftsmanship. However, in recent years, 3D printing has emerged as a groundbreaking technology that is enhancing and revolutionizing how these age-old techniques are approached. Join us as SoCK member, Lauren Levy, leads a program exploring some of the opportunities and challenges surrounding this topic!
knitCompanion Part 2: More Tips and Tricks
This is a follow-up to last year’s knitCompanion presentation. Learn tricks, including ways to set up projects and pattern pages, using highlighters to help you focus, creating one-tap row highlighters and automatic reminders, bringing a printed pattern into knitCompanion, and scanning paper charts to include in a pattern. Bring your tablet or laptop to follow along.
For a refresher, the March 2024 program handout (Ravelry & knitCompanion) is in the members’ section of the knitatnight.org website.
Why does that knitter have the yarn around the neck? Come explore a “new” style of knitting (in existence since the 700s) where the purl stitch and rib stitch are a breeze. Bring a swatch with 20 stitches and 3 or 4 rows if you want to participate. Worsted or DK is probably the best. You can use your practice swatch from last month!
DIFFERENT LOCATION!!
Are you a thrower, picker, or flicker knitter? Learn about the different styles and their uses. You’ll also get an introduction to backward knitting and double knitting. We’ll try different styles, so bring a cast-on swatch for practicing.
Join the SoCK group for our annual holiday party.
Formulate your gift-stealing strategy for our White Elephant Gift Exchange Game. Bring a $20-25 wrapped gift without any name tag (stash dive if you want). The gift should be related to or themed after knit/crochet/yarn, etc.
Participation in the White Elephant is optional, but it’s a lot of fun and can be quite competitive! Bring yarn-friendly snacks or finger food. With any luck, the weather will be cool enough to show off lovely hand-made scarves, shawls, or sweaters. Join us!
