SoCK Meeting – Holiday Party

Join the SoCK group for our annual holiday party!!

Formulate your gift-stealing strategy for our White Elephant Gift Exchange. Bring a wrapped gift ($25-30 value). The gift should be related to or themed after knit/crochet/yarn, etc.

Participation in the White Elephant is optional, but it’s a lot of fun and can be quite competitive!

Bring snacks or finger food. With any luck, the weather will be cool enough to show off lovely hand-made scarves, shawls, or sweaters. Come join us!

SoCK Meeting – Amigurumi

Amigurumi with Annette:

Come join SoCK in November for cuteness overload! Amigurumi is the Japanese art of crocheting or knitting small, stuffed yarn creatures.

Annette will teach us crocheted Magic Circle, which is the foundation for making all kinds of little figures. For the program we’ll make a cute little Santa hat, perfect for small gifts and stocking-stuffers. To participate, bring leftover worsted or DK yarn and the appropriate size crochet hook.

SoCK Meeting – Christmas Knits

Don’t put off your Christmas knitting any longer! Let’s talk about planning out our Christmas knitting with ideas for easy and quick projects. Dolores Rose will be our guide to explore options for everyone on your list: articles to wear, items for the home, and things for play and comfort. Plus, share your favorite gift items to make.

Homework:
Bring some 100% wool yarn and appropriate needles or hooks and we’ll get started on a set of felted drink coasters.

SoCK Meeting – Tips & Tricks

August is that time of the year when the pace slows down, and all you want to do is find a cool place to sit, knit (or crochet), and chat with your fellow guild members. Bring projects you’re currently working on and kick back – the program’s more casual this month. Tell the group about your favorite tips, tricks, or projects. Sometimes these golden nuggets are game-changers!

SoCK Meeting – Needle Felting

Sock member, Ann Wohn, will present a program on “Fun Fiber Crafts” with a focus this month on needle felting. Come learn about supplies, cathartic techniques, and how to get started with a simple clump of wool or felt sheets!

While we hope to see you in-person for, there will also be a zoom option for those who are unable to attend live. Just send a note to knitatnightguildsock@gmail.com and we will forward you the dial-in if you are not on our chapter mailing list.

Dyeing Yarn with Koolaid in SoCK

SoCK Meeting – Kool Aid Yarn Dyeing

Summer is here and it is HOT! What better way to cool off than with some Kool Aid? Instead of drinking it, SoCK members will head to the kitchen and do some yarn dyeing in the microwave with Kool Aid!

Dyeing with food dyes is an easy, fun, and safe way to become an indie dyer for a day. You can use any white or light-colored yarn that is animal fiber (wool, mohair, etc., no cottons or acrylics).

Materials to be provided for those in-person; otherwise, check your stash for leftovers or unloved hanks and give them a makeover with this fun technique! We will send out a full list of materials ahead of our meeting, so if you are not a SoCK chapter member, be sure to send an email to SoCK for the information.

We do hope to see you all in-person for this event; however, there will also be a zoom option for those who are unable to attend live. Just send a note to knitatnightguildsock@gmail.com and we will forward you the dial-in if you are not on our chapter mailing list.

SoCK Meeting – Flower Stitches

April showers bring May FLOWERS! Come join us for a program on different flower stitches!

For our knitters: We will learn about the lotus, daisy, dahlia, cornflower, and dandelion flower stitches. Bring some stash yarn to practice and have corresponding needles.

The featured pattern is the “Knitted Flower Tutorial” by Julie Taylor. You will need 2 colors: approx.10 yards of DK yarn (main) & approx. 1 yard of DK yarn (contrasting); size US 6 (4mm) needles. You may use other weight yarn with corresponding needles.

For our crocheters: We will create a tulip stitch, worked in multiples of 2 + 3. Bring with you 3 colors of your choosing (recommended 1 to be a green) and a corresponding size crochet hook!
