SoCK Mtg – Holiday Party @ WC Mercantile

It’s time for our annual holiday party at WC Mercantile! We will have a catered brunch provided by our very own Brandy Graessar. Activities will include shopping, stitch marker swapping, and a gift swap/steal game. For the stitch marker exchange, bring 25-30 stitch markers to swap.

For the Gift Swap/Steal Game, bring a wrapped knitting book that if bought brand new
would be worth $20 – $30. But feel free to bring a gently used book that you found at Half-Price Books or that’s been languishing on your book shelf.

Participation in the stitch marker exchange and the Gift Swap/Steal Game is not required.

Carpool Information

We will meet at the Starbucks at Spring Cypress and Highway 290, in front of the Best Buy. All those who want to carpool, meet there before 9:00 a.m. We will then condense into a smaller number of cars. If you want coffee, arrive early to make sure you have plenty of time before the carpool leaves.

SoCK Mtg – Knitting Origins

SoCK Mtg – Knitting Origins

Have you ever wondered about the origins of knitting?  Stopped to think, who came up with the idea of taking two sticks and some string and making a sock?  Just how old is knitting?  What were the first knitted items?  Wonder no more.  Come learn about the beginnings of knitting through the medieval period.  Learn about where knitting began and what people in the dark ages knitted.  There will be pictures of pieces from the medieval age, reproductions, and patterns based upon historical pieces.  All taught by a noble woman from the 1300s.

SoCK Mtg – Block your Shawl

SoCK Mtg – Block your Shawl

Due to a number of technical difficulties, we will not be watching the remainder of the “My First Lace Shawl” Craftsy class.  But never fear!  For those of you wondering how to block your beautiful shawl, we got you covered.  In June we will be holding a Round Table discussion on blocking.  We will be discussing all the different ways to block projects (pinning, steaming, ironing, dryer) and which method works best for which type of fiber.  So bring your blocking knowledge, questions, and that crumpled shawl that’s been banished to the back of the yarn closet.
