KIND Meeting – Round table discussion on various topics

The February KIND meeting was cancelled due to the weather, so the March meeting will have the same agenda: We will have a round table discussion covering topics such as how we organize our yarn, what tools we put in our project bags, any favorite tools or techniques we like.

If there are other topics you want to talk about or you are not a KIND member and want to attend, please email Kate Wilson at kangwebmaster@gmail.com.

KIND – German Short Rows

This month we will learn how to do German short rows.

Homework: Using any worsted-weight yarn and an appropriate sized needle, cast on 20 stitches. Work in garter stitch for 4 rows, then work stockinette stitch for 2 rows. Do not bind off.

If you are not a KIND member and want to attend, please email kangwebmaster@gmail.com for a link to the meeting.

KIND December meeting

We will be meeting via Zoom on December 17 at 10am.  Please bring anything you have finished or are working on to share with the group.

KIND November Zoom Meeting

Allyn Wise will be teaching us how to use Magic Loop for working in the round on hats, socks, or other small objects.
If you are not a KIND member and want to attend, please email kangwebmaster@gmail.com for a link to the meeting.

Homework:

Using worsted weight yarn and the appropriate size needle, cast on 32 stitches onto a circular needle at least 24″ long.  A longer needle works just as well.  Multi-ply yarn will be better for newbies than using a single ply yarn, but if all you have is single ply, use it.

KIND Meeting – Knitting as Protest

The KIND chapter will meet via Zoom on Thursday, September 17.  Nancy Polychronopoulous from the KNIT chapter will give a talk on the history of knitting and crafting as a form of protest – think Madame Defarge from Tale of Two Cities!

An invitation to the Zoom meeting will be sent out to KIND members prior to the meeting. If you are not a member but would like to attend, please email kangwebmaster@gmail.com.

KIND Meeting – Dorset buttons

The KIND chapter will meet via Zoom on August 20 at 10 am. Pat Modisett will present a program on making Dorset buttons.

Dorset buttons are essentially rings (plastic now, formerly wood, bone or horn) covered with natural linen or cotton (or wool). We’re going to learn the basic design and then you can let your imaginations soar!

Because of limited supplies, if you plan to attend the class, please send Pat an email at modisettwilson@gmail.com with your physical address so that she can mail you a packet of materials. Only the first 15 people to register will get the packet.

Pat has had fun learning about these and can see lots of possible uses. Ours probably won’t be used for custom made undergarments or fireplace hoods as they were back in the day, but they’d look great on a sweater or hat or accent piece on a scarf or purse.  Join us and try it! All registrations must be received by noon on August 13.

KIND Zoom meeting

We will hold our next few meetings meeting via Zoom until it is safe to meet in person again.  In June, we will not have a regular program but will talk about the knitting projects we have worked on in the last couple months.  Be prepared to show your projects and tell others the pattern name and the type of yarn used.

Date:  June 18
Time:  10:00 am
