KNOT Meeting – Sarah Paul

KNOT (Knitters North of Town) has a change in our May program. Sarah Paul of Wild Dahlia will present our May 23 program. Sarah is a spinner, hand-dyer and felter who will bring some of her tools and tell us how she creates her lovely designs. Sarah was at Yellow Rose Fiber Fiesta last weekend and will be at Houston Fiber Fest on June 21-23.

The “Happy Endings” program has been postponed until the June meeting.

June Program

“Happy Endings” will teach us some attractive ways to finish off our knitting projects.  The program will include Crab Stitch (crochet) and a couple of different I-cord bind offs.

A bit of homework: 

Cast on about 18-20 stitches and knit 8 rows.  Use any scrap yarn you have on hand, preferably in a solid light color so that you can see the stitches clearly.  Don’t bind off; leave the stitches on your needles.  Please also bring a crochet hook about equal to the size of your needles.  If you don’t have a hook, we’ll have some available for you to use. 

KNOW Meeting – Shawl Shapes Primer

PLEASE NOTE:  Our May meeting is being held a week early in order not to conflict with Memorial Day.

 

At our meeting on May 20, Roxanne Rump will present her “Shawl Shapes Primer,” where she will describe in detail the different shapes of shawls, the features of each, and how to go about knitting them. Roxanne, the head of the KNOT chapter and a skilled knitter, has developed a very informative and helpful handout that will be provided at the meeting. Please plan to attend and learn everything you need to know in order to choose and create the perfect shawl for yourself or your loved ones.

KNIT Meeting – Information on Houston Fiber Fest

This month we will have Nancy Polychronopoulos tell us all we need to know about Houston Fiber Fest which will be held June 21st – Jun 23rd at the Berry Center.  Learn all about vendors and classes.  Make plans to see your friends.  We will cover it all at our May meeting!

SoCK Meeting – Discussion of yarn

What is yarn? Yarn by definition is a continuous often plied strand composed of either natural or man-made fibers or filaments and used in weaving and knitting to form cloth.  Have you wondered what ply is or what fiber options are available?  Join SoCK for a discussion on yarn.  

For our June meeting SoCK will be going on a field trip! Join us at Color Me Mine in Cypress from 11:00 – 1:00 to paint a yarn bowl. The cost is $30.00 plus tax. Please RSVP to SoCK by May 26 if you would like to attend.

SoCK Meeting – Mitered corners

Join SoCK as we explore a mitered corner.  Please bring cotton yarn and size 8 or 9 needles.  We will continue sharing our progress on the KAL shawls. 

CHIX Meeting – Joining in the round

Sue Werner will present our program for April.  If you are interested in trying some alternate methods for joining circular knitting, please join us.  There will be samples of the various methods available; if you wish to try them, you will need a small amount of worsted weight yarn and your favorite needles.  Also, feel free to share any tips you might have for knitting in the round.

KNIT Meeting – Entrelac

Ruth Cutting will bring the wonders of entrelac to our meeting.  Ruth suggests a skein of self-striping yarn with long color runs; something like Noro’s Silk Garden or Plymouth’s Gina.  DK or worsted weight would be the easiest to work with.  And of course, bring needles in an appropriate size for the yarn.

KNOW Meeting – Mitered squares

 

At our meeting on Monday, April 29, longtime Guild member Jan Clark will show us how to knit mitered squares.  Please bring a small amount of yarn (scraps of leftover sock yarn are perfect), needles in a size appropriate for your yarn, and a safety-pin-type marker. We will be learning to pick up stitches and knit double decreases.  Jan will have handouts available.
